The 7th Korea Women’s Leadership Award

One of the effective ways to develop women’s leadership is through the identification and public recognition of women role models who can motivate and inspire other women. The YWCA of Korea established the Korea Women’s Leadership Awards in 2003 sponsored by Citi foundation to develop women’s leadership by acknowledging and encouraging outstanding women leaders in Korean society. The 7st Women’s Leadership Awards ceremony was held Thursday, 29 at the Press Center in Seoul to honor three women leaders who showed excellent leadership in the professional field.

Whang Youn-Dai, the winner of Grand Prize has dedicated herself to the rehabilitation of the disabled as a first female physician with disabilities in Korea. At the Seoul Korea Paralympic games in 1988, IPC established Whang Youn-Dai Achievement Prize to enhance the will of people with disabilities to overcome their adversities using her prize money she had theretofore received.

Young Leadership Award went to Lim O-Kyeong, a Korean national handball team player who won Olympic medals three times. Her continuous endeavor and excellent leadership as a player-manager is highly evaluated.

Ms. Molly Holt who received the Special Award went to Korea to help her father, a founder of the Holt foundation for the adoption of orphans. She has dedicated herself to improve the recognition on the adoption in the Korean society and expand the  service including support for single moms, welfare for the disabled and multicultural families.
