YWCA of Korea held the final briefing session of Social Service Job Creation Project for Married Migrant Women at Seoul YWCA Auditorium on Friday 18th Dec.
This session was planned for summarizing the outcome of the Project aiming at the economic empowerment of married migrant women, the YWCA of Korea has focused on this year. For this session, about 100 migrant women gathered to share their experience and meet the friends. They gave the presentation on their work experience and had a time to hear the professional advices from the expert of the each job field. Many people from the government, private sector, NGO and press participated the session to celebrate the outcome of this project and learn the lesson. According to the recent statistics, the married migrant women in Korea is appropriately total 128,000 persons. The empowerment of married migrant women is one of the main priorities of YWCA of Korea.
YWCA of Korea supported by Lotte Homeshopping has provided the financial education and vocation training program for the married migrant women in Korea, Based on the result of pre-research on the job development for married migrant women, 10 job areas including Clothes mender, Nail artist, Counselor, Folk artist, Barista, Multicultural education instructor, English instructor, Hair stylist were selected. Along with the vocational training program on each job area, research on the job development of married migrant women and the job fair to provide the career information were presented throughout the year. Ministry of Gender Equality supported the women who finished the training program to have a job experience in the social enterprise or local YWCA’s cooperation workplaces.
YWCA of Korea plans to extend this project to enhance the social participation of married migrant women, raise their status and self confidence through the economic empowerment.
